The Fugees Are Coming Back!

Yesterday was a beautiful Memorial Day... not having much in the way of plans, I decided to venture out to the beach and work on avoiding the already noticeable farmers tan. Going to the beach is something I hadn't done (w/out my dog) in a long time. I started thinking of everything that I had to bring, and of course music was at the top of the list.

Realizing my iPod Shuffle, crammed with dance music for the gym, would not be appropriate, I then pulled out my old (and very dusty) portable CD player. I scoured my CD collection for stuff that would fit the mood... The new stuff I really wanted to listen to, I only had on my laptop. This situation just highlighted how much I wish I had an iPod, but I still had to deal with the current situation.

I grabbed some Josh Rouse, Tegan & Sara, Tracy Chapman, and then I thought of the Fugees! I grabbed that album because it was HUGE when I was spending a summer in France, where I spent a lot of time on the beach. I don't think I had picked up that album in at least 4 or 5 years. Listening to it at the beach, I thought about all the band members current careers, how it's great that Wyclef is still out there doing his thing, how it's good Pras has a new album coming out, and how horribly tragic Lauryn Hill's career had been after her AMAZING Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album. That album was stellar, and everyone knew it. She opened her tour for that album in Detroit and I made sure I was there to see it. I started collecting all the import singles, remixes, and everything. I was so excited to see what Lauryn could do with her talent.

Then nothing...

Then the 2CD MTV Unplugged album (blech)...

Then nothing...

She would briefly pop into my head now and again, especially when I put on my Refugee Project T-shirt (that I bought from a flyer inside her album) with the quote "Change the focus from the richest to the brokest."

Being at the beach with that Fugees album really made me think about what will happen with one of the most influential talents in Rap.

So today I get into the office and find this article... :)

Fugees planning 'Score' follow-up

A possible reunion looking ever more likely.

Nine years after recording one of the biggest selling hip-hop albums of all time, The Fugees look set to try their hand at a follow-up.

Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel all hit the solo trail following the release of their second album, 1996's 'The Score', and many thought the band would never reform due to internal tensions.

However, a string of one-off concert appearances in the last year have clearly brought the troupe closer. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Pras Michel says the time feels right to do something: "Clef and Lauryn's putting tracks together while I drop my solo album."

"It's starting to feel good working with them," he added "It's a great feeling."

Speaking from New York, Wyclef refused to be drawn, aside from saying "We've gone from not talking to having conversations. There's good vibes, good energies right now. I want the Fugee thing to happen -- because it's not just music, it's a movement."
