Ornaments and Icing: Songs and Stories of the Holidays is a celebration of sorts. Like a good celebration, it incorporates the familiar and comfortable with the fresh and new. Many of the songs on this, the 2007 and 5th edition, are songs we all know well. But we've never heard them played quite like this. A dobro on Away In A Manger, a distant wood flute on In The Bleak Midwinter, even more years of angst informing the rollicking new live version of Suddenly It's Christmas. Unless you're from that part of Canada, this will probably be your introduction to a song called Christmas In The Valley. The original Song Of The Menorah may be new to you as well.

We refer to the stories as the "Icing." Informally, several of the artists comment either on the song they're performing or the Season. Our more fully presented tales include the story of Skippy's adopted family and the concept of Dog Heaven. And, of course, there is the Ornaments and Icing traditional take-a-turn reading of The Night Before Christmas. If you click on that title below, you can listen to just that excerpt and read along to find out which voice matches which name.
