A Trip to Borders... Storyhill

Went to Borders to peruse the CD collections this past weekend... something I haven't done in a while. I don't know if it's just me or what, but CD collections are looking meek and meager now-a-days. There were the obvious new releases shoved up front, but the rest of the collection just seemed kind of drab and lifeless. Many of the sampler players are broken or removed, shelves were poorly merchandized and organized... It didn't used to be this way at this particular Borders, so I'm not sure if it's a representation of record stores to come, signifying the influence of internet sales, or if this particular location is just getting lazy.

Regardless, I can always find some way of wasting hours at a CD store. Although this time I found myself taking photos of CD covers with my phone, so I can remember what I needed to look-up online later. I never thought I'd get to this point, where I'm downloading more music than I buy in CD form, but it's here... Though I still tell myself that I plan on getting the best of the best albums on CD eventually.

Of interest on this trip:

The New Gipsy Kings, Pasajero. I've been looking for a fresh-new album from them, and I think this is it.

Endless Highway, The Music of The Band. I saw Guster on this compilation and took a second look. With the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Jack Johnson, Rosanne Cash, and more, it couldn't be bad.

The Be Good Tanya's Hello Love. I liked the description of the album, as well as their sound, and the strong cover of When Doves Cry. Good Sunday morning music.

Finally, I saw two men on a cover with the title Storyhill. The description gave them the "spirit of the Indigo Girls"... I quickly grabbed the headphones and liked what I heard. A great band for those who like Girlyman, Cry Cry Cry, or any other folk harmonization. I was a little surprised I hadn't heard of them before, especially being on Red House Records. Then further investigation showed that they've been together for nearly 10 years with multiple albums out.

So, I bought the actual CD of this band. Everything else I got online...

Here's one of my favorite songs from the CD.
