Playing Catch-up

This has been quite a trying weekend, but I'll try to spare you the details. Here's some odds & ends that I wanted to catch up on.

First off... Alanis goes Lesbian? I was reading an article at PlanetOut.com, they were talking about the new Alanis Morissette Greatest Hits album, the first single of the collection, which is a cover of Seal's "Crazy," and the video where there's a lesbian kiss. Not a bad track, and forget about the kiss... what is with Alanis' hair??

Check the video out for yourself here:

In my depression this weekend, I grabbed a copy of the Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack. I was really excited to get it, even though I haven't seen the movie yet. And what an album to listen to while being depressed... the subtle and spacious score by Gustavo Santaolalla is a perfect compliment to the tracks by EmmyLou, Rufus, Teddy Thompson & Steve Earle. All the tracks are good (except maybe the Mary McBride track), but I love Teddy Thompson's "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye." Check it out here:

And speaking of Teddy Thompson, I got a promotional email about his new album from the Rufus Wainwright mailing list. I've seen him with Rufus before and he's great! I highly recommend checking him out! Here are the details:

Teddy Thompson's new album 'Separate Ways' is a follow-up to his much-acclaimed debut album "Teddy Thompson" which revealed Thompson to be a deeply expressive singer and an incisive guitarist. This charismatic young artist is a songwriter of uncommon eloquence and craft. Teddy's music has been likened to the sound of Damien Rice & Neil Finn and he will be on tour in the UK over the next few weeks.

'Separate Ways' is released on Monday 7th November and it features Richard Thompson, Linda Thompson and Rufus & Martha Wainwright

Also coming out is a new Josh Rouse EP. If you don't know who Josh Rouse is, please do yourself a favor and pick up a couple albums.

Josh Rouse is pleased to announce that he will release the "Bedroom Classics, Vol. 2" EP on Tuesday November 8th exclusively via iTunes! (Perhaps you're one of the lucky fans to nab a super rare copy of the first in the series, "Bedroom Classics, Vol. 1," featuring early versions of "Michigan" and "Sad Eyes.")

According to Josh, "'Bedroom Classics, Vol. 2' consists of 5 tracks, some instrumental and some with my voice. I'm excited about it, it's really moody and different from anything I've put out." Indeed! Largely inspired by Josh's love of film scores, "Vol. 2" will be released on Josh's own imprint, appropriately named Bedroom Classics. A limited edition run of CDs is on the way; which will be available at his winter shows and online via his website.

Speaking of which, Josh will embark on a European solo tour at the beginning of December, including a date at The Village in Dublin on December 8th and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on December 9th. Have no fear, he'll be making it over to the states in January (dates to be announced soon), previewing songs from his anticipated new album, "Subtitulo," slated for release in March.

"Subtitulo" is heavily influenced by Josh's move to Spain. After spending many years in central Tennessee (which came to a close with his most recent album and farewell letter to the city that helped hone his craft, Nashville), Josh packed up his bags, bought a plane ticket and immersed himself into the lifestyle and customs of the Spanish culture. This influence shines throughout the upbeat (and largely romantic) tenor within each song. Look for the first single and video, "Quiet Town" (a homage to the little Spanish community Altea, where Josh first laid roots upon arrival) to precede the album.

You can get a copy of Bedroom Classics here at the iTunes Music Store. You can also hear it on his MySpace site: http://www.myspace.com/joshrouse

And finally... on a sad note, John sent me this. Could this be a joke?? I know... who cares about Enrique, but I've always had a little crush on him... and his self titled album from 1999 isn't THAT bad. :)

IGLESIAS NEEDS SMALL CONDOMS

Pop heart-throb ENRIQUE IGLESIAS has hinted he's not the perfect lover, by revealing he wants to launch his own range of small condoms.

The Spanish singer enjoys a high profile relationship with tennis beauty ANNA KOURNIKOVA and is lusted after by female fans around the world. But they may be underwhelmed by his confession.

He says, "The next product I'm going to put my name on is extra-small condoms. I can never find extra-small condoms and I know it's really embarrassing for people."
