Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack

UPDATE: Verve has (ever so politely) asked me to remove this link.

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie, based on a short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning Annie Prolulx and directed by Academy Award-winning Ang Lee. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger and is supposed to be just an amazing love story. Well, this soundtrack is looking equally amazing, with tracks from Rufus Wainwright, EmmyLou Harris, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, and Teddy Thompson! Below is the article from Gay.com, where you can listen to the tracks by Rufus and Willie (they are also posted below).

Here's the official site for the movie: http://www.brokebackmountain.com/ (I highly recommend checking out the trailer)
I would also recommend checking out the press this movie has been receiving on Towleroad.com

The "Brokeback Mountain" soundtrack

Gay audiences will leave the upcoming Heath Ledger-Jake Gyllenhaal cowboy movie "Brokeback Mountain" wanting to get their hands on the DVD immediately. Bad news: You'll have to wait until late next year for that. Good news: Meanwhile, there's the soundtrack.

Given the context of this collection of songs, the mix of instrumentals and vocal tracks take on new meaning. The movie's atmosphere is marked by a down-home blend of folk, bluegrass and country tunes -- and the country ballads, in particular, will likely be interpreted in a whole new way by gay listeners.

When Willie Nelson sings the heartbreaking line "Every time I think of him/I can't help from crying," from the emotional "He Was a Friend of Mine," you'll want to grab the nearest hanky. Emmylou Harris' tearjerking "A Love That Will Never Grow Old" is equally powerful.

Other contributions include songs by Mary McBride, Steve Earle and the amazing Rufus Wainwright, whose "The Maker Makes" is as close to perfect as they come. Grammy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla's acoustic-guitar score is a haunting and beautiful reflection of the film's atmosphere.

The "Brokeback" musical choices are as intriguing as the movie's plot. For example, while "A Love that Will Never Grow Old" is a brand-new song by Santaolalla and Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin, it would be nice to know if it was written specifically for the soundtrack of a film that tells the story of two men who fall in love -- and, if so, why a woman was chosen to sing the song.

The "Brokeback Mountain" soundtrack will be released by Verve Forecast on Nov. 1 -- but you can listen to "He Was a Friend of Mine" and "The Maker Makes" exclusively right here, right now.
