New Righteous Babe-er... Toshi Reagon!I've
heard her Toshi's name several times, but can't say I know
much about her. However the fact that she is releasing a new album on Righteous Babe
Records immediately commands respect from me. At first, long ago, I
was a bit taken aback by Ani releasing other artists on her label, but it has
quickly proved to be a platform for me to discover new artists that quickly
become some of my favorites (Bitch & Animal, Hamell on
Trial, Andrew Bird, etc). I'm excited to get to hear this album and
check out some of her older stuff.
You can listen to the whole album here: Can can read about the album here. You can see her RBR page here. You can read her bio from AllMusic.com here. Damn, is there anything else you need?? oh... Here is the promotional text I received from RBR. :) We are happy to announce the upcoming release of our newest Righteous Babe Toshi Reagon. On Have You Heard, Toshi calls the listener back to the heart of rock and roll with a voice overflowing with raw emotion. Reagon’s Righteous Babe Records debut is her sixth full-length album overall. Many of you may recognize Toshi, she has opened for Ani numerous times including her last performance in Farmingville, NY this past July. The infectious energy of her live shows is captured on this studio album. Supporting her earthy tenor and amazing ability to bend the guitar strings are a few members of her live band BigLovely and a special guest appearance by Chocolate Genius’ Marc Anthony Thompson. With her all-star players behind her and producer Craig Street (Me’Shell NdegeOcello, kd lang, Joe Henry, Cassandra Wilson) and mixer Elliot Mazer (Santana, Neil Young) at the helm, Have You Heard drives deep into your soul. An uncompromising brew of artistic exuberance and exceptional musical talent, Have You Heard can work as the soundtrack to a house party or an introspective walk in the park. It’s been 15 years since Toshi Reagon broke on the NYC music scene with her debut album and her latest is proof that her star is still rising. Have You Heard doesn’t hit stores until October 4, but don’t despair—you can pre-order your copy now, or find out more about Toshi just click here, or check out some streaming audio on the website.
