Apple / Motorola's iPhone

Thanks to a tip by Product Shop NYC, I get to leak Motorola's iPhone. :) I hope it's cool because I'm not that happy with my Palm Treo 600.

I-PHONE PLAN LEAKS FROM GOV'T SITE

ITunes, Apple's dominating music download business, will soon be available on cell phones, now that government regulators have approved a new iTunes-capable phone.

Apple and Motorola, the phone's maker, had tried to keep the product a secret, hoping for a blockbuster launch just as students head back to school in the coming weeks.

News of the phone leaked out earlier this week when the Federal Communications Commission posted pictures and the manual for Motorola's iTunes-equipped E790 phone on a government Web site, indicating it had approved the phone for use on U.S. mobile networks.

"You can use iTunes to purchase and download music for your phone, listen to CDs and digital music, and create playlists of your favorite songs on your phone," according to the manual.

Apple and Motorola officials confirmed the phone would roll out in a matter of weeks, but refused to say how revenue from phone-based sales of iTunes songs would be split among Apple, Motorola and cellular service providers.

Analysts said that FCC's approval of the phone is another indication that an all-in-one mobile device that combines communication, music and video is on the horizon.

The i-Phone, as music fans have dubbed it, will have a VGA-quality camera, stereo speakers, and will be able to hold a gigabyte of songs or more on removable thumbnail sized "mini-SD" flash storage cards, according to the manual on the FCC Web site.

The phone will operate on GSM cellular networks and support short-range Bluetooth connectivity as well.
