Tegan & Sara ReminiscingHow
I wish I would have started this blog years ago, but I guess I can just be
comfortable knowing that I was gaining years of preparation and knowledge for
where this will go. One regret for not doing this sooner was not being able to
sneak my digicam into the Tegan and Sara show that I saw at the Grog Shop earlier
this year. What a show. My first exposure to T&G was actually through
Amazon (of all places). They were a band Amazon suggested, and it caught my
attention for about a second. I later got a bootleg of a show that I hadn't
paid much attention to (kinda poor quality). I then saw they were coming to the
Grog. I listened to some music on their site, liked what I heard (I wasn't
blown away) and figured if I went, I went.
I am so glad I went. They were amazing, and beyond any expectations I may have had. To put it simply, they rocked! The sound was clean, cool and captivating. Their interaction and humor on stage was as fun as their music. I bought the new album at the show and it quickly became of my favorites. I've since revisited the bootleg and I've picked up their older album, coincidentally the one Amazon requested. I guess I should be paying better attention to what Amazon was trying to tell me. ;) I have since run across this article that does a wonderful job of describing them. Here's a clip (I highly recommend reading the whole thing): ""We're career artists and we're here for the long haul," Tegan said during a backstage interview. The Quin sisters' latest release, "So Jealous," will likely be considered their breakthrough record. This is the album that has critics plowing past the irresistible lure of their packaging (you know, the part about them being hot, gay, identical twins from the semi-hinterlands of Canada) and digging into their real DNA — artful songwriting combined with layered performance." http://music.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=180913 Tegan & Sara at AllMusic.com Posted: Wed - February 9, 2005 at 08:41 PM | |
