The Bravery & Ash (4/12/05)

This is my friend Kat's review of the show!

"Oh, The Bravery. With the greased look of The Clash, the lead singer from The Bravery has the look that any retro-alternative, livin' in the 80's, punk band should have. If you're old enough, The Bravery can definitely take you back to mohawks and combat boots. You will also find each member brings his own past look. The guitarist with his Rod Stewert shag hair cut and beautiful girlish voice and the other guitarist also known as "Dirt" with his Ziggy Stardust eye art and that deep serious face that makes you scream "take off your shirt". The drummer had the appearance of a rock band that played on Ed Sullivan. Oh yea, and then there was that other guy. I have to say that I really enjoyed the show. I felt a sweet remembrance for bands like The Clash, The Ramones, The Plimsouls, Bauhaus and even Joy Division. The Bravery, although the same genre of music sounds nothing like The Killers so quit comparing them, there's enough fans for both!"

It was great having Kat there to make those comparisons to some of the alt-80's bands. I've learned to really appreciate some of them, but I was too busy rocking out to the hair bands of the day to appreciate the good music that was out there. :) I guess I didn't have much to say about the show other than it was fun to see such a raucous, sweaty, beer-chugging, spit-prone band as the Bravery. They were definitely an alt-gay-goth-boy's wet dream.

It seemed quick that The Bravery was up and back off the stage. Definitely a great show.

Ash was up next. Pretty hard-rock outfit. They seemed to play pretty straight-forward rock, and I was a bit surprised to find out that they were Irish. And just as with every Irish person I've met, the band (especially the lead singer) was just so damn nice and cute. Don't get me wrong, they rocked! I may pick up a CD of them if I find it in the used bin...
