Chris Castle (3/13/08)

MySpace is (still) such a great tool for local artists... for people to find their music and for artists to connect with their fans. This is exactly what happened with Chris Castle. I've been enjoying his music and writing on his MySpace page for a while and was glad to see he was playing out in the Cleveland area. I planned on seeing him in a couple weeks at Verlie's Cafe, but got a message from him telling me about last night's show at Wilbert's downtown. This is also the Film Festival week, so I wasn't sure I could make it, but that personal contact really motivated me.

Got there early for dinner and had a great chat with Chris. He's a great guy and very down to earth. He was the first performer (opening for Jeff Black) and was joined on stage with another guitar and a bass. The three guys, with three "guitars" was something I hadn't seen before, but really enjoyed. Their harmonies were magnetic, complimented by Chris' excellent songwriting. While the harmonizing was great, it was only topped by Chris' solo voice... This may sound a bit strange, but I find it completely soothing and comforting, like a sitting around a campfire.

We weren't able to stay for Jeff Black, but I definitely plan on making the Verlie's Cafe show. Wednesday, April 2nd @ 9:00 pm (no cover)!

(sorry for the bad photo... still need to get a new camera)
