Immaculate Machine (11/10/07) (sans Seawolf)

This was to be one of the most exciting shows in the last several months, and we find out at the last minute that Sea Wolf cancelled. Ugh. Brian was coming in from Pitts to see it and he ended up going over to see a show at the Tavern instead. I was invited, but had been listening to Immaculate Machine for the past 24 hours and was really digging it. I decided to stick with the original plan and do the Grog. It paid off...

D and I knocked out a couple of our World Tour beers from the Winking Lizard, he headed home, and I was on to great music and fun people watching. I missed Tightrope Kalidescope, but was there for Cleveland's own JJ Magazine. They had a great live show, but I found myself pondering their recoded sound. I definitely think I'll see what's available online. I would definitely see them again. (update: upon cursory searching, no music is available to buy online - hmm)

During their show, I saw some cool guy with one of those haircuts that's one of the daring 80's mullet-types who carried it quite well. I noticed he was wearing earplugs and it got me thinking how it's not a bad idea. I already know I'm getting old by my complaining at the late start of these shows, I might as well go all the way and consider protecting what hearing I have left... I grabbed another beer and see said guy on stage as the lead of Immaculate Machine... I guess it wasn't such an uncool idea. :)

Not many people were there, which was kind of a shocker. I scooted up close for a good standing spot for Immaculate Machine.

I discovered they hail from Victoria, Canada and were typically Canadian-cool. Intelligent, talented, quirky and overall enjoyable. Their album only took a couple listens to appreciate their alt-indie sound, but one song only took one listen, C'mon Sea Legs. That is definitely the anchor of the album for me, but not the show. It was all around a great experience. So while Sea Wolf not showing was a disappointment, I have to thank them for bringing Immaculate Machine to my attenntion. Definitely right up there with seeing Bishop Allen.
