Chris Garneau (5/22/07)

I have to give a big thanks to Towleroad for bringing Chris Garneau to my attention, where he calls Chris Indie Music's New Gay Star... It was convenient that about the time I read this article, I realized he was coming to the Beachland Tavern (yay!). Of course it had to be on a cursed weeknight, but I was determined to see him, despite having two opening acts.

By the time they came on, I was ready for bed. But he instantly had me hooked with his subtle charm and effortless performance. From what I heard on his MySpace page, I wasn't sure what I would be seeing on stage, but when I saw the two cellos, I knew this would be great. And it was.

Chris isn't much of a talker, but he doesn't need to be. His music will keep you engaged. He has a sweet voice, which can go from whispery to booming in a split second, and he takes you with him for the ride. As for his live vs. recorded sound... both are great (the way it should be). His live performance definitely brings something you can't get on the record.

Enjoy: "Baby's Romance"

Oh, performing the same night was Tapes & Tapes with Ladyhawk at the Grog Shop, which I was originally planning on going to. Luckily I Rock Cleveland has a write-up on that show for those who missed it.

UPDATE: Chris has a new interview posted over at NewNowNext
