Apples in Stereo (2/10/2007)

What a surprise hit... I'm often trolling the online "music scene" and I've seen quite a bit of buzz about The Apples in Stereo, so whenever a band with that much buzz comes to Cleveland, I take notice.

I downloaded a couple songs and liked what I heard. I liked them a little more when I saw this video for Same Old Drag on YouTube. I still wasn't sure I would be making it to the show however. After missing Friday nights show, I looked a little harder at The Apples in Stereo and downloaded their album. LOVED IT! It was fun and accessible. The plans were set.

My friends Andrea & Katie called to see what we were up to and I convinced them to come along. I think they're glad we did. The opening band, Casper with Cookies, were fairly represented by their name... not quite sure what it means, with a sense of humor that you don't understand. Their set did NOT promptly start at 9:00 (it was more like 9:50) and they played the longest opening set I've ever seen. I was anxious for them to finish because my excitement had been building for The Apples in Stereo all day. I don't want to say they were bad, I just didn't get them.

One of the challenges with discovering a band and seeing them perform all in one day is you don't get the chance to really "take-in" everything about their performance. I recognized a lot of songs, so I presume they played a lot from the new album (understandable since it's been 5 years since their last album). Overall, they lived up to my expectations, and even exceeded them a little bit (see the guy with the silver cape & lit glasses?).

Buy the album and go see them in concert.
