Indigo Girls (10/22/06)

As you can see, I didn't see (missed) a lot of shows over the summer and into the fall. Much of the reason was because I was trying to cut back on expenses for this new house... and it is worth it. One of the shows on the chopping block was the Indigo Girls show at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium... partially because I have seen them so many times, but mostly it was the price tag. When they went on pre-sale, I was able to secure 2nd row seats... but with additional charges, two seats at that level was nearing $100! So I passed.

You may remember that I had been hopeful for this new Indigo Girls release... I was really trying to convince myself that the show wouldn't be that good. The night of this show I was sitting around the house by myself (D was off doing something for work). Then low and behold, a savior called. My friend Jen left me a voicemail asking if I'd like her ticket because she was sick... a 2nd ROW TICKET! However I got the message a couple hours after she left it. Trying to not get my hopes up, I called her back. She still had it. As for the price, she was gracious enough to just give me the ticket. (Thanks again!!) ;)

Squeezing up to the 2nd row for this show was pretty exciting. It's the closest I've been at this venue. Opening was Three5Human, a band on Amy's Daemon Records. Their name is a representation of the black slaves being considered only 3/5 human for the purpose of representation in the government. These guys were passionate and truly rocked the house. When I first heard them, I wasn't sure how they'd go over at an IG concert, but the crowd really reacted well to them...

As for the Indigo Girls. They were in TOP FORM. They played a lot of new material, with some of the necessities sprinkled throughout. Ending the show, Three5Human came back out on stage for the last couple songs and what a finish it was, especially with the rousing Midnight Train to Georgia... No pictures though. The security guys were like hawks. At one point I just made a call to have my partner listen to a song when one security guard nearly assaulted me for "recording" the show. I explained it was only a phone call, and with the desperate attempts of Amy sitting next to me (some cool IG groupie), we thwarted his attack.

After the show I started listening to their new CD a lot more. It's GREAT!! Though I have to say that I usually skip the Emily tracks, but the Amy ones are some of the best they've ever done. (Sorry Emily). ;)

Also, click on the setlist to go to where IG keeps setlists for ALL their shows (both hand-written and actual). This is the setlist for this show (as would be expected).
