Girlyman (9/10/05)

Every year I try to make it back for the Black Swamp Arts Festival in Bowling Green, OH. Partly for the nostalgia of being back in Bowling Green (my alma mater), partly to go back to Finders Records, and partly because it's a pretty damn cool festival with some great music! In the past couple years I've seen Laura Love and Over the Rhine play. This year I hadn't paid much attention to the line-up, but days before going I looked. I about screamed like a little girl when I saw Girlyman was playing!

Instead of recapping my Girlyman past, you can read my other Girlyman entry Little Star Drops Today.

This was an early show, with them taking the stage at Noon on Saturday. I was a bit surprised they had such an early slot, but whatever. The day was absolutely beautiful, not a cloud in the sky. I wasn't aware of the danger of that until we were sitting in the second row, in the blazing sun with no protection what-so-ever (it's September for Christ-sake!). Immediately I saw Jen, who I am convinced is my female concert-going couterpart. She is at almost every female / folk / alt-country show I go to! And who coincidently hosted the Girlyman house-concert I went to.

After a lengthy (and hot) sound check, Girlyman began. They sounded great, performing music from both of their albums. Sitting there was D, myself and my brother-in-law's brother, Daniel. My sister, brother-in-law and both my nephews were on their way. Unfortunately, I wasn't concentrating as much on the performance, as looking for my nephews. Once I found them, I ended up hanging out the rest of the performance at the back of the beer tent with them (in the shade, with a cold one). :)

After the show, we headed back to Daniel's place, had a cook-out and rode his 4-wheelers.

For pics of the rest of the day, check them out here.
