Liz Stahler (9/5/05)

This was Labor Day, and it was an amazingly beautiful day outside. D & I had watched two of our favorite shows that afternoon, Firefly & Weeds , (DVR rocks) and then I checked the Barking Spider website to see who was playing. I saw the name Liz Stahler (yay, a girl!) and checked out her website. She referenced the names Dan Bern and Patty Griffin and I was instantly there! I couldn't turn away someone who has such good taste. I even admitted that to her while she was on stage (if you can call it that), which was nice because we got to hear the story of her opening up for Dan Bern, playing for one of her biggest audiences ever.

This was her last stop before going to Boston. She seemed a bit tired, being near the end of this tour, but she sounded great and was quite grateful to her audience. One of the highlights of the night was when she walked over to the piano, which is something she doesn't often get to do. Her own music was wonderful, but it was definitely a surprise when she covered Coldplay's "The Scientist." (Admittedly, a song that is a bit over exposed, but hearing Liz do in on the piano at the Spider was a treat).

Liz was also selling her CD's to raise money for a Leukemia Foundation, for her friend Jennifer Falkenstern (sp?). I've bought CD's for a much less noble cause, so I ended up buying both her CD's and throwing in a little extra. It was worth it. Check out one of my favorite tracks from her newest CD.
