Garbage (5/10/05)

So I've thought about going out of order to bring you the Martha & Futureheads shows immediately, but it's the burgeoning librarian in me that needs to keep these things in order. Besides, good things come to those who can wait, right?

Garbage was a great show. I was supposed to be studying that night, and I had considered just selling my ticket and staying home (since it was a sold-out show). But I persevered and walked around the corner to the Agora. By the time I got there I missed the opening act, The Old 60's, and I was starving so I stopped the Agora's BackStage Cafe. I highly recommend their pizza (by the slice)!

So I have to admit, I bought a ticket for this show even though I hadn't given them much of my attention lately. I hadn't been wooed by the new album, I hadn't been listening to much of their older stuff either. I guess I just had a soft spot in my heart for them, probably the fact that it's a female vocalist on a rock band.

They had a long, slow, dramatic opening with Johnny Cash singing Hurt. Next thing you know, Shirley Mansion and band busts out on stage. She starts strutting around in a circle on stage with her tall boots and mini-skirt. Damn! I guess I didn't know what to expect, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting that. I guess I kinda forgot how hot and sexy Shirley Manson could be, even more so with that Scottish accent!

It was an amazing rock show, definitely worth the sold-out status. Shirley was also very personable with the crown, at one point stopping the entire show to talk with some kids with their faces covered. She questioned if they were terrorists or something since they had handkerchiefs covering their faces. She was trying to figure out what their "statement" was. She finally called one of them up to give them a stage on which to make that statement. It was unfortunately some kids trying to half-ass promote his band. You could see Shirley's, and the whole audience's disappointment, but I loved the fact that she totally called him out. She then shouted out, asking if anyone had anymore statements. I love a woman who uses her power.
