Angie Heimann (4/6/05)

Again at the Barking Spider, I was ready to see a band by the name of the Kerosene Kondors, who were seemed like a pretty racous alt-country band. I was there at 8:00 and no one was there, no sign of a band setting up. Next thing I know this small, inconspicuous woman walks on stage. I figured it was just a change-up in the schedule, but it was a pleasant surprise to see Angie Heimann playing, as I was more in the mood for a female singer/songwriter than a full band.

From the first note I was hooked. Angie had a this sweet, rich, quivery voice that reminded me of Patty Griffin. She played songs that felt like she was telling a story, very similar to Dar Williams. These were two characteristics that had me sold, and she did nothing to prove me wrong the rest of the set. Her songs caressed you with each one being as good as the last. Her stories between songs were equally as charming.

As the night went on, she shared that she is actually a back-up singer to the Kerosene Kondors and that the band's van had broken down in Chicago. With no money to buy a new van or fix the old one, the tour had ended. Angi had continued on the tour as she had some solo shows booked.

After the show we sat down and talked for a little while about our favorite artists, how the internet affects music, about my Master's Degrees, etc. I bought a couple discs and called it a night. I would highly recommend that you see her perform sometime. It definitely was a pleasure and an honor to see her play. I want to get this entry posted, but I plan on posting a low quality version of one of my favorite songs for you to hear, so check back soon.
